Counselling for New and Expectant Mums

Becoming a mum can be one of the most life-changing experiences but it doesn’t always feel the way you expected.

Alongside love and joy, you might also feel overwhelmed, anxious, low, or unsure of yourself.

You may feel like you’ve lost a sense of who you are, or that you’re constantly trying to hold everything together.

It can be really difficult trying to conceive and managing the emotional turmoil each month.

You might be experiencing fertility struggles and going through your IVF journey or maybe you’ve experienced baby loss or are pregnant again after loss?

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone and you don’t have to cope with it by yourself.

I offer supportive, down-to-earth counselling for new and expectant mums in Birmingham, providing a safe space where you can talk openly and feel heard without judgement.

How You Might Be Feeling

You don’t need to have a clear reason for coming to therapy, sometimes just having space to talk can make a big difference.
Every experience of motherhood is different, but you might be:
Feeling overwhelmed or emotionally drained
Struggling with anxiety or fears around birth
Experiencing low mood or early signs of postnatal depression
Feeling isolated or lonely during maternity leave
Finding it hard to switch off or relax
Questioning your confidence as a mum
Adjusting to changes in identity, relationships, or routine
Feeling anxious being pregnant again after experiencing a previous baby loss
Finding it difficult processing the grief of your baby loss

A Space That’s Just for You

As a new and expectant mum, much of your time and energy is focused on your baby but therapy is a space where the focus is on you. It’s somewhere you can:

Speak honestly about how you’re feeling

Make sense of your thoughts and emotions

Feel supported without pressure or expectations

Begin to feel more like yourself again

My approach is warm, compassionate, and tailored to you. I aim to create a space that feels safe, calm, and genuinely supportive.

Flexible Therapy Options

I understand that life with a new baby can feel unpredictable and full. That’s why I offer:

Online counselling

A private, comfortable space to talk without distractions if you want the comfort of your own home.

Walk & talk therapy

A more relaxed, outdoor approach where we walk side-by-side in a safe location in Birmingham. You’re welcome to bring your baby if that feels right for you.

You can choose the option that feels most comfortable, or a combination of both. You’re allowed to need support too. It’s common for new and expectant mums to feel guilty about taking time for themselves but looking after your emotional wellbeing matters. Not just for you, but for your relationship with your baby and those around you. You deserve support just as much as anyone else.

Testimonials

"Sarah made me feel comfortable from the very start and most importantly safe. She gave me a space to be completely myself and encouraged me to work through what I needed to without doing it for me. She enabled me to take our sessions and workings into real life situations which significantly helped my journey."
"Sarah has been there for me at the darkest time in my life when I needed someone who could understand my perspective as a new mum. She deeply listened and validated my feelings, cried with me, laughed with me, and gave me space to talk at my own pace. Thank you for being there for other mums, it’s so important to have someone specialising in this area of mental health."
